RIZAL, Nueva Ecija — Local health workers in the town of Rizal participated in a three-day training program aimed at enhancing their knowledge and skills in delivering essential health services at the grassroots level.
Despite the absence of regular work due to a holiday break, Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) and Barangay Health Workers (BHW) attended the sessions organized by the municipal government in coordination with the Rural Health Unit (RHU).
Rizal Mayor Trina Andres said the training was part of the local government’s efforts to empower frontliners with the right tools and updated knowledge in community health management.
“Even without regular office hours, the energy and eagerness to learn were very evident,” Andres said in a statement posted on social media. “We hope that the skills and knowledge you’ve gained will be used to build a healthier and more vibrant Rizaleño community.”
The training sessions covered key areas such as basic nutrition, maternal and child care, disease prevention, and health data reporting.
Barangay health workers serve as the backbone of the community’s primary healthcare system, especially in rural towns where access to hospitals and doctors is limited. The Philippine Department of Health considers the BNS and BHW programs as crucial in implementing national health campaigns at the local level.
Mayor Andres, now serving her second term, has prioritized health and nutrition programs in Rizal, a fourth-class municipality in the northeastern part of Nueva Ecija province.
