CALATAGAN, Batangas — The municipality of Calatagan is set to become the first in Batangas to roll out barangay-based free public Wi-Fi, with the pilot launch scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, 2025 in Barangay Lucsuhin.

Mayor Rico B. Puno, in partnership with i-One Services, Inc., will lead the formal launch of the program, which aims to provide fast and free internet access to all residents of the barangay.

“This marks a historic step for a more connected Calatagan,” the local government said in a statement, noting that the initiative is part of its broader digital inclusion campaign.

The Lucsuhin pilot is the first phase of a wider plan to install free public Wi-Fi across all barangays in the municipality in the coming months. Officials say the project is expected to boost access to education, livelihood opportunities, communication, and economic development throughout the town.

Calatagan is among the growing number of local government units in the Philippines investing in public internet infrastructure to bridge the digital divide and support inclusive growth.
