MAMBURAO, Occidental Mindoro — The provincial government has established the Provincial Haven for Women and Girls, a specialized facility that provides immediate assistance, protection and support to women and children who have experienced violence, abuse or crisis situations.
The center, located at the Hospital Compound in Sitio Bunot, Barangay Tayamaan, offers temporary shelter, professional counseling, legal assistance, medical referrals, psychosocial intervention and case management. It caters to victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse, trafficking and other forms of physical, emotional or psychological harm.
The facility was built under the leadership of Gov. Eduardo B. Gadiano, through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Rosalina R. Lamoca, RSW. It is managed by Social Welfare Officer II Maria Angela T. Cayetano, RSW, with a team dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for clients.
On Thursday, Erick John C. De Vera, technical staff from the Standards Section of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Mimaropa, visited the facility to check its operational readiness and prepare it for accreditation. He also conducted an orientation on compliance requirements.
Provincial Planning Officer IV Ricardo Atanacio R. Zoleta attended the meeting on behalf of the provincial government.
Officials said the opening of the Provincial Haven marks a significant step in ensuring the safety and welfare of women and children in Occidental Mindoro, particularly those at risk or in distress.
