Senate Agriculture Chair Leads Crop Insurance Distribution in Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines — Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman on Thursday led the distribution of crop insurance from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) to farmers in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, as part of efforts to shield the agriculture sector from climate-related risks.

The program, held Aug. 14, 2025, targeted farmers who have been hit by natural calamities.

Lawmakers and local officials urged more farmers to enroll in the insurance scheme, which provides financial protection against typhoons, floods, and drought — common threats in Cagayan, one of the Philippines’ top rice and corn producers.

During the event, the senator also held a dialogue with farmers to hear their concerns and pledged continued government support.

Cagayan Gov. Edgar “Egay” Aglipay, Vice Gov. Manuel Mamba, PCIC President Jovy Bernabe, and local officials joined the distribution.

The PCIC, a government-owned corporation under the Department of Agriculture, has been expanding its reach as the country faces more frequent extreme weather events linked to climate change.
