Shelter for Occidental Mindoro patients opens in Calapan

Authorities have opened a temporary shelter in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro for patients and their families from Occidental Mindoro who travel to the city for medical treatment, provincial officials said Sunday.

Occidental Mindoro Governor Eduardo Gadiano ordered the establishment of the “Bahay Kanlungan” on August 15, 2025 to provide safe and decent accommodation for residents seeking care in Calapan hospitals.

“This program is part of the provincial government’s effort to ease the burden of patients who endure the difficult and costly process of seeking treatment outside the province,” Gadiano said in a statement.

The initiative forms part of the AKAP HUB, a provincial program that provides assistance and support to Mindoreños in need, officials said.
