MANILA – Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Wednesday ordered officials in the city’s 896 barangays to prepare for a possible major earthquake, following a series of tremors that struck Cebu, Davao, and other parts of Mindanao and Luzon.
Domagoso said the city government, through the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Manila Health Department, is ready to respond in the event of a seismic event.
He urged both public and private sectors, including schools, to be prepared to serve as evacuation centers if needed.
The mayor also called for simultaneous earthquake drills to be conducted across the entire National Capital Region, covering schools, private companies, and government offices, in preparation for a potential catastrophic earthquake, often referred to as the “Big One.”
